Many Musicians Make The Guitar The Musical Instrument Of Choice

Do you love the crashing sound of rock and roll? Do you play the air guitar with your favorite songs? Then perhaps the guitar is the musical instrument for you. Do you love the twang of the guitar in country music? Then the guitar might be the instrument for you also. Perhaps you love pretending to strum along to your folk favorites. I think you see where this is going.

Guitars are quite versatile as far as musical instruments go. The good news about guitars is that once you have gotten the basics down, you are pretty easily able to switch from one design to another. This means that one set of basic skills can play several different instruments.

There is one basic idea you should have a clear mental answer to when considering buying a guitar to play in a rock band. Musical instruments aren't exactly cheap. They also aren't all that easy to come by. You have to take into account many factors besides looks and sound when making a choice. With this in mind you want to be certain that you are picking the best musical instrument for your specific playing needs.

The first thing you need to know is what kind of guitar you want to play. Like many other musical instruments, guitars also have a wide range of implements from which to select. The following are some of the more popular guitars: acoustic guitar (my personal favorite), the bass guitar, classical (also known as the Spanish) guitar, electric guitar, Flamenco guitar, semi-acoustic guitar, and the 12-string guitar.

While each of these is a fascinating musical instrument, each one also has its very own unique sound among guitars. Since bands aren't generally one size fits all, you will want to decide the type of band you want to play in before you decide which guitar you will want to purchase. Another thing to keep in mind is that you aren't marrying a particular guitar when you begin. As with any musical instrument it is perfectly acceptable to begin playing with one instrument, then to go on and learn new musical instruments later.

Once you decide what kind of music you want to play, it becomes a bit easier to pick out your guitar.

For the purpose of playing in a rock band, you will probably want one of the following guitars to begin your learning process: acoustic guitar, electric guitar, a semi-acoustic guitar, the 12-string guitar (which I don't really recommend for beginners), and the bass guitar. As with any musical instrument, there is a learning curve with the guitar. Acoustic guitars or semi-acoustic guitars are a good way to go with beginners (these are also kinder choices for the neighbors as well). The 12-string is one of the most difficult. You also have to look at what equipment you want to have to carry around with you as well, any musical instrument that requires an amplifier is going to be more difficult to transport - especially in addition to all of the other equipment a band needs.

The other thing you need to consider when buying a guitar is how it feels. You want any musical instrument you purchase to feel comfortable, especially a guitar. Keep these things in mind and you should make a good choice for a beginner guitar.

The good news about guitars, when compared to other musical instruments, is that you don't have to marry one particular style from the start. If you decide to switch from an electric to an acoustic guitar you don't have to learn a completely new set of chords and skills. What you've already learned you can easily transfer to the next guitar of your choice. You'll notice most professional guitarists have a wide array of guitars, and they tend to be equally proficient at all of them.
